By Don Kjelleren— Board President
I am especially pleased to report our 2012 games were very successful. Participation increased by 47% over 2011 and 87% over 2010. See the games report next in this newsletter. We are well on our way to realizing our three year goal of 500 or more participations. My thanks to the athletes, “Olympians” all, for competing in this year’s VSGA state championship games. I also wish to thank the sport coordinators and all the volunteers who made the games possible. Check our web site early next year for our 2013 games dates. I hope everyone will come back for our thirtieth year, and bring a friend.
210 Athletes qualified at this year’s games for the 2013 NSGA Summer games. With Cleveland only a day’s drive away, we hope many of our qualifiers will consider participating in this exciting national event.
I am also pleased to report that we have added three new excellent Board Directors: Ute Talley, owner of Shelburne Health and Fitness; Deborah Worthley, Associate Director of the UVM Center for Aging; and Phyllis Bartling, owner of FUTURA Design. Our 18 member working board meets monthly at the Vermont National Country Club. We welcome guests as well as comments and suggestions from athletes and/or other interested persons.
Over the next two months we will be starting a major campaign promoting our MOVE for well-being initiative. We thank the UVM Center for Aging for being the major sponsor of this program. The January Vital Times! and our web site will provide full details on how you can get involved. Also, look for posters and brochures promoting this initiative. This is an outstanding program that we feel you will find to be fun while youare enhancing your well-being.
Visit our web site to see our new VSGA promotional brochure. We will be distributing these brochures next spring as part of our games awareness plans.
We will again be offering Alpine and Nordic Winter Games. We had a great time last winter, and hope more of you hardy Vermonters will race this coming season.
Have a safe and healthy winter and best wishes for a happy and prosperous holiday season.
