Sun Shines on 5 Km Road Race

Although the day started off with the thermometer barely reaching 40 degrees, once the sun burned through the fog, it was a perfect day for a 5K race.

Thirty athletes were dual registered to be part of the 2017 VSGA 5K Road Race Championship in a field of 118 runners. Huge congratulations to VSGA’s volunteer website manager Matt Guild who not only earned a gold medal in the men’s 50-54 age group but came in 5th in the overall race. High fives also to Nick Persampieri and Jim Flint for also placing in the top ten overall. Karen Newman was the fastest female VSGA racer.

You can see all the VSGA results here and get the results for the whole race – including the fabulous 1-mile kids’ race –  at Second Wind Timing. Many thanks to Dave Donaway and his team who did a great job.

VSGA appreciates the opportunity to partner with the Northfield Savings Bank and the Central Vermont Runners on this race. We’re also grateful for NSB’s generosity in donating $5 from each registration to benefit the Children’s Literacy Foundation of Waterbury.

Special thanks to our Sport Coordinator (and VSGA Board President) Marti Powers for her dedication and to all the VSGA competitors for participating with such skill and spirit. See you next year!
